Jim Fruchterman - President, Benetech

A highly successful technology entrepreneur, Mr. Fruchterman has been a rocket scientist, founded Calera Recognition Systems, a major optical character recognition manufacturer, and developed Arkenstone, which provides an affordable line of reading machines for the visually impaired.

In 2000, Mr. Fruchterman founded Benetech, a non-profit venture that combines the impact of technological solutions with the social entrepreneurship business model to help disadvantaged communities in our society and across the world. Benetech specifically pursues endeavors that emphasize a strong social, rather than financial, rate of return on investment.

Mr. Fruchterman serves on U.S. federal advisory committees and is also co-founder and a director of RAF Technology, Inc., America's leading high-end OCR technology company, used by the United States Postal Service to annually route billions of pieces of mail. Currently serving as Chairman of the Board of Beneficent Technology, Inc., and Bengineering, Inc., he has been awarded the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, the Fast Company/Monitor Social Capitalist Award and named by the Schwab Foundation as One of World's Top Social Entrepreneurs.
