Kaylah Marin - Hip Hop and Neo-Soul Artist/Producer

Kaylah Marin is a renaissance artist, Hip Hop and Neo-Soul vocalist, a writer, producer, and guitarist. Kaylah first began performing as a child with her Guatemalan-born Father, Jazz Saxophonist Philip Marin, who instilled in Kaylah a love of music and dance rich within her Garifuna roots. Kaylah’s Mother Mary Marin, an Educator and lover of the arts, purchased Kaylah's first guitar and took Kaylah to symphonies, musicals and museums, instilling in Kaylah a deep pride in herself as an African American woman with a heritage brimming with strength, music, art, and spirituality.

Kaylah began performing proffessionally with techno band THE RIOTS at the Digital BE IN in San Francisco in '97. In May of 99, ONE, song recorded with European group TRIBECA, won the Future Music Magazine Demo of the Month, while Electronica song X on the Beach by SIR VERE, also featuring Kaylah's vocals, played all over the clubs of Ibiza, a huge hit at the Manumission. Taking a temporary break from Electronica in 99, Kaylah founded with Jalila Bell a non-profit Dance, Music and Theater company THE BUTTERFLY PROJECT, dedicated to promoting positive images of women in the arts.Wanting to focus on the company, Kaylah took a hiatus from performing with bands until 2001 when she decided to turn her focus to being a solo artist collaborating with other artists musically. Her performance spots include the Elbo Room, Boom Boom Room, Pier 23, 12 Galaxies, Butterfly, North Beach Music Festival (2002), See Alice Run concert (2002), Great America, Oakland Arts and Literature Festival (2004), Butta, and a new batch of lyrics recording her first Professional full length CD with executive producer Laurie Andrewsen, Producer Dominic Buscemi, Robert Powell, and Matt Cohen. Look for the CD in Late August at www.kaylah.org.
