There are many news sources out there for getting news headlines online and there are new stories breaking somewhere around the world every second. At the end of the day, only very few stories make it to the front pages of newspapers, blogs, and TV stations for many reasons. This project gives people a visual access to top news stories in more than 200 countries using an interactive flash map. News will be archived and users will be able to query news of any country in the past days, weeks, and months. Our hope is that users will gain better understanding of world events. This project will use the following tools:
Languages: Java, JavaScript, PHP, HTML, and XML
Applications: Flash, Eclipse, and Joomla
Web Services and APIs: Facebook, Google and Yahoo
Users will get the news as it happens around the world from hundreds of sources. At any given time, there will be one thousand stories plotted on a flash map along with details on summary, news source, publication date, and images. People will interact with the news to be better informed, enlightened and enriched about the world. Users will able to share the news stories with their friends on social networks such as Facebook (click here).
