We've launched the N2Y4 Reflection Forum!

The "a-ha" moments and open questions from the N2Y4 Conference are aggregated and shared in the N2Y4 Reflection Forum to keep the conversations going. You can comment on and vote for different ideas and questions, and you can even add your own ideas.

The Idea:

What will change in the world because this Project happens?

One man tacked his complaints to the door of a Catholic church. Do people know your story?

Your stories will change our destiny.

BACKGROUND:

  1. Millions of people are blogging their stories.
  2. Policy activists are always looking for "personal stories" to support their goals.
  3. You are more powerful than you think.

IMPACT:

  1. One single story can make tanks roll to a stop.
  2. The new march in Selma, Alabama, is flickering across our keyboards.

What information will people interact with to make this change?

FIND:

  1. People telling their stories
  2. New or existing campaigns that need your story.

BUILD COMMUNITY:

  1. Campfire circles. Promote stories, gather storytellers.
  2. Learn. Listen to stories, sit by a campfire.

What else have you done in this Cause Area?

Political decisions have always been based on what "the peoples" needs are. I have several years of experience as a policy advocate for immigrants and communities of color. I read blogs. I haven't opened a history book in years. But I know who Ryan White was.

The Assessment

What kind of help or resources do you need to turn your project idea into a completed mashup?

  1. A creative director for a simple, visual interface
  2. Needs assessment for useability
  3. Technical know-how and equipment

Mashup Data Sources

  1. Digital storytelling projects on nonprofit websites
  2. Keyword blog search: Technorati, Diaryland, Xanga, Friendster, Sparkpeople.com, Creativecommons.org (Flickr, Youtube), etc.

  1. “Share your story” search in *.org domains, Thepetitionsite.com, Democracyinaction.org, etc.
  2. Search for related hearings, proposed policies, etc (legislative, executive, judicial, municipal, county).
