SocialHub - Dashboard for Social Change [New Mashup Project]

The Idea:

What will change in the world because this Project happens?

Who is the target audience?

You, me and them. You (as you are reading this on the netsquared.org which is a popular site in its category: non-profit technology), me (as I have been wanting such a service) and publishers who publish social change related articles, people who write blogs along this theme and non-profits.

Everyone who is working towards positive social change can benefit from it.

What is this initiative all about?

Simply, create a dashboard for positive social change.

Specifically, create one page aggregations for each category that present latest articles from the most popular web sites in the respective categories.

Credits: This concept of one page aggregations has been made popular by (http://pophub.com/)

How will it be like?

We will create a list of categories around the theme of positive social change.

Eg: Green Technology, Non-profit Blogs, Health, Environment, Poverty, Youth, Online initiatives, Funding organizations, etc.

For each category we will select the most popular websites and a link to the latest articles from them.

Eg: http://green.socialhub.org, http://non-profits.socialhub.org, etc.

Additionally, it we will also feature dynamically generated micro-sites for country specific news items and articles.

Eg: http://kenya.socialhub.org, http://usa.socialhub.org, etc.

Every micro-site on SocialHub will have one page aggregation for the latest articles from the most popular web sites in those categories.

It's not a destination web service but a start point (dashboard).

When?

[Scenario 1]

Jim likes to end his day by keeping track of news around non-profit technology. He subscribes to http://nonprofit-tech.socialhub.org

[Scenario 2]

Rebecca likes to begin his day by reading the most popular articles from around the world. She tracks http://global.socialhub.org

Why?

I have been looking forward for such a service and I am sure there would be others.

It would prove to be extremely useful in today's world where information overload is a reality. It would also help to provide focus to all initiatives from around the world.

What information will people interact with to make this change?

First:

You can bookmark the page and keep getting back to it everyday to see updates in categories you want to track. - You can also set it up as you start page on the Internet (Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari) if you are like me who wants to keep updated.

Second:

Active back-end social filtering. Simply put we would be able to track the kind of articles people are interested in when they click on them at SocialHub.org and use this data in a creative way to enhance the user experience and discoverability of content.

Third:

We could also use interesting data from the end-points(the blog posts/articles we link to), like number of comments on articles, number of del.icio.us bookmarks, number of diggs etc. to promote and increase the rating of the respective posts/articles.

What else have you done in this Cause Area?

I am the founder of SocialSync which is a platform for organizations working for a positive social change in India.
