2008 Voter Guide

VOTING HAS ENDED. Thank you for participating in our NetSquared Mashup Challenge.

Voting Criteria:

NetSquared is a community driven effort. It's our goal to be as inclusive as possible because, honestly, it's your job to pick the projects that can best use the time, attention, and funding that this contest can help focus and bring.

We ask you to keep these criteria in mind as you choose your favorite Mashup projects from the Project Gallery:
  • Does the Mashup use the power of community and social networks to create change?
  • Is there a clear way to measure the success of the application; does this measurement directly relate to creating social impact?
  • Does the application give you a sense that the project exhibits passion and commitment to work for social change?

Project Sorting Features:

We want to take a moment to highlight the various "sort" options (how you can view various Mashup applications) available to you in the Project Gallery. These features were developed to help organize projects based on community engagement and interest.

Here's a quick explanation of the features we've launched to help with voting.

  • Stars - We launched the "Star" feature to give users a way to show support for projects in a simple way (stars will be disabled during voting)
  • Comments - Comments are a simple entry-point for people to engage projects (comments will be disabled during voting)
  • Tag Cloud - The "Tag Cloud" at the top of the Mashup Gallery was designed to illustrate the cause areas with the greatest number of submissions. The bigger the font, the larger the number of Mashup applicants submitted in that particular cause area
  • Date Submitted
  • Project Name

Our Voter Guide (downloadable as a pdf) is another tool we've developed to help the community make an informed vote for this year's Mashup Challenge. Please see the legend in the voter guide for an explanation of the icons we've used to illustrate information.

How to Vote

  1. If you have not already done so, please register and log in to the NetSquared site.
  2. Registration has been automated for the duration of the voting process. If you did not receive a confirmation email, please check your junk mail.
  3. Click the Projects link to review project proposals.
Take a quick tour of the legend in our Voter Guide.pdf.
  4. You must choose at least 5 (and up to 10) of your favorite projects.
  5. To vote for a project, click on the voting badge or "Add Project to Ballot" link at the top of the page.
  6. You may only vote once for a project. Yes, that includes your own!
  7. If you change your mind on a project, click the "Remove Project from Ballot" and the project will be removed.
  8. Once you have chosen the projects you want to vote for, please review your selection.
  9. Submit your ballot to cast your final votes. Once you SUBMIT, that's it!

  • Each registered user has (1) single ballot.
  • All votes for projects are weighted equally (in other words, your first choice and 10th choice have equal value).
  • UPDATE: Voting has ended.
  • On March 27th, we will publish a list of (20) projects which will be featured at the N2Y3 conference on May 27 & 28 in San Jose, California.

Thanks for your time and thoughtful contribution to this year's Mashup Challenge!

You're done.
