What is NetSquared?

TechSoup NetSquared spurs responsible adoption of social web tools by social benefit organizations. The new generation of online tools, such as blogs, wikis, RSS feeds, and podcasting, makes it easier than ever to collaborate, share information and mobilize support. Some people describe them as "Web 2.0"; we call them the “social web,” because their power comes from the relationships they enable. Nonprofits and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) thrive on relationships – which means the social web holds tremendous potential to transform their effectiveness and impact.

In its third year, NetSquared focuses on:

  • Net Tuesday- a monthly real-world gathering of Net2 members and friends across the U.S.
  • The NetSquared Conference, May 27 and 28, 2008 in San Jose, CA , which will feature 20 mashup projects- chosen by the NetSquared community. These projects will be competing for a share in the $100,000 Technology Innovation Award and additional in-kind assistance to broaden their reach and impact.

Who is involved?

The people who came up with the initial NetSquared idea are Daniel Ben-Horin and Marnie Webb.

But the driving force behind this project today is the NetSquared community that includes people from very diverse backgrounds.

Who's the "TechSoup" in TechSoup NetSquared?

NetSquared is an initiative of TechSoup, a nonprofit organization founded in 1987 as CompuMentor. Through our informational Web site and our TechSoup Stock distribution operation, we transfer IT knowledge and products to the global nonprofit sector. The TechSoup website is visited by over 400,000 unique monthly users from over 190 countries looking for nonprofit tech know-how to achieve their missions. To date, TechSoup has also distributed over 2.7 million technology donations to nonprofits in the U.S. and beyond, at a retail value of over $725 million.
