Ok, a little more focus here, how might an organization use social networks on line, to boost their project?
This is a rapidly evolving sector.
There are sites like Myspace, Facebook and quite a few others.
I think one of the goals is to educate the public, expose, but also to find people who already have a common ground to a project.

What do you mean by 'boost'?
akha,
I think it might help to clarify what you mean by "boost." One of my pet peeves in the past has been treating social networks like free advertising. Apart from not being particularly effective (people will quickly tire of your spam and unfriend/remove you) it's based on a misunderstanding of how social networks develop and why people use them.
If, on the other hand, you're looking to grow and expand your project by cultivating online communities and engaging with your members, then I think you're on solid ground, and I've written a little bit on how I've gone about that sort of thing in the past.
Hope that helps.
