Behold! The Feast (An All Day Buffet To-do)

Today (the 12th) is the last day on which you can buy early bird tickets for All Day Buffet's conference, The Feast. You should probably get on that if you can, as if you don't buy your ticket today, entry is going to cost a lot more tomorrow. So get your ducks in a row and your credit card out, as operators are standing by.

The simple intention for the conference, which is going down in New York on the 16th of October, is simply to, "Inspire Action. Change the world. Have Fun. Because doing good shouldn't feel like a chore."

(Also, The Feast is only a day long, which I love as I am super-prone to conference fatigue. And it doesn't start too early in the morning - Also a bonus.)

A few days back, I talked with Jerri Chou, my in at ADB, about The Feast:

Me: If you weren't involved with it already, why would you, as a conference-goer, be excited about it.

Jerri: These are the people who are at the forefront of trends, of changing the way that we think about social action. To meet them and to hear them talk about different mediums of communication whether its fashion, advertising, or design, or whether its how they've changed their industries to create social good, I think it is both inspiring and educational from standpoint of soeone who is really interested in social innovation. Also important is getting connected with people in that kind of setting, and to be able to brainstorm with disperate group of people. That's exciting.

Me: Hrm.

Jerri: How was that?

Me: Oh, it was very good. It's a great summary.

Jerri: Will you send it to me when you're done with it so I can send it out to other people?

If you're one of the 130 people that attend this shindig, you'll have a chance to see a handful of cool folks speak. There'll be:

  • Dickson Despommier, Columbia professor, who'll rap about vertical farming.
  • Scott Belsky will be talking about ideas

and:

  • Tom Szaky of Terracycle will e talking about worm poop.

Chou also suggests that nothing like this has ever been done in the social sector before, that they'll help to attack problem-solving with "a twist." It's not just about design, or music, or social interaction theory, or whatever. It's about figuring out how to "figure it out."

And they'll handle networking in an interesting way.

So The Feast is a modestly-sized, personality-packed, networking-savvy, problem-busting conference that All Day Buffet workers suggest they'd be excited about, even if they weren't required to go.

Sounds righteous to us.
