First of all, I just want to note how exciting it is that Amy Sample Ward has come on board as the new Net2 Community Builder. As you all know, Britt has done an amazing job of bringing some fantastic people around Net2's vision, she is loved and appreciated, and everyone is excited to see her stay involved with the Net2 community. At the same time, we're psyched to be checking out the great things that Amy is going to bring our way. Here's to the future.
Channing posted a bit about Changeblogging the other day. Many of you know that Britt has been maintaining a Changeblogger network via a Facebook Group for a while, but she has since shifted the operation over to Ning. So far as I can tell, membership is going up and the meme is spreading. Just the other day, while having a conversation with a friend about Ning, I had asked if she had heard of the network. She had explained that she had not yet, but that she would definitely look into it. Two hours later, she emailed me to tell me that another friend had beaten her to the punch and she had joined accordingly.
Never underestimate the power of the changeblog meme.
The motto of the Changeblogger network is "Blogging, vlogging, and podcasting for good." There, that's exactly what you'll find. The member list is an impressive one, and it includes a lot of very admirable names of folks in the field who actively spread the word about social change.
Of course you should check out the network if you consider yourself a changeblogger, so that you can keep in touch with the others there. Ideas are being shared, meetups are being organized, and networks are being strengthened so it would benefit you greatly to head on over and take a look around.
Of course (again), it is well worth your while to keep your eye on this community if you're working on the nonprofit end of things. I get asked fairly consistently by folks in the nonprofit realm, "Who is blogging about X in this area and how do I find them?" Or, "Where can I send this press release so that bloggers will cover it and locals can read about it accordingly?" Apparently Britt gets asked that a lot too, as she has made available a place on the site for "bloggables." Bloggables, she describes, is "a place for folks who would like Changebloggers to consider posting about their event, organization, topic, etc." Also up on the site is a place for organizations, bloggers, and others to post job listings.
Thus far, members of the network have put together a series of meetups that are taking place from Boston, to New York, to DC and the interest and willingness to put together new gatherings appears to be picking up steam accordingly.
This is an active and passionate group that will be able to maximize its positive impact the more that people join. It's a great place to share ideas, start a dialog, and be a part of a rather substantial movement towards blogging for good. Be sure to take part, be it in the role of a spectator or a participant, today.
