Following SXSWi From the Comfort of My Couch

Here I sit in Northern New England, bummed because I'm not at South By Southwest Interactive. I am especially sad because as I began putting this post together, I found out that not only am I missing the conference, but a Social Media for Social Good panel as well. @HumaneSociety, @DaveIAm, @Kanter, @Armano and @StaceyMonk are all having a good time with the crowd, and I'd put my money on [NetSquared's very own] Billy Bicket and Amy Sample Ward being there as well. Everyone's having a good time and here I am suck scouring blogs on a dreary Boston afternoon (Boston appears to be the new Britain).

Boo. Hiss.

So SXSW is still rocking, I am not there, and I' a following it via the interwebs. Assuming you might be in a similar boat (poor us, my friend), I've tried my damndest to currate the best short SXSW/mobile related links for your viewing fancy:

  • I just stumbled upon @AppAfrica (whose blog you can find here) while Twittesearching. It's a rad feed and a rad blog [about African/IT issues]. They sat on a panel with Erik Hersman of Ushahidi (N2Y3 grand prize winner).
  • Speaking of Hersman, on his blog "White African," he goesa bit into "Mobile Web in Emerging Markets."
  • Gigotron won a Web Award for their live-music finding device.
  • According to Gigatom (not Gigotron... confusing, I know), "Location Awareness is the New Black."
  • [Stuff White People Like author] Christian Lander's Facebook Status: "SXSW = comicon for nerds who try too hard... I feel at home."
  • iPhone blog give its take on iPhone related bits and pieces at SXSWi.
  • Wonderland reports: "It's all about the mobiles. It's possible to manage on just wifi, depending on your city, but an all-you-can-eat data package is still pretty much essential. I'm managing without while roaming, though, but Austin is very wired (KEEP AUSTIN WIRED). Most people here have iPhones, and the rest have googlephones or blackberries. Top apps: Twitter (obviously), FourSquare, google maps."

Only slightly unrelated are:
