Off We Go Folks, But That Is Not “All”

The official Net2 Global Leadership Council meetings are over. But not really. We hope to be able to build on the energy and the potential sparked by the few days meeting. We hope to translate everything we talked through into action. Will we fail? It is possible, but we should try doing it fast. And then -- do it again. In the end one of the few things we did establish, is that it is worth trying.

The Bread and Butter

What it seems that we have focused on during the GLC was to understand and establish where we are. How did NetSquared start? What is a “it is complicated” relationship with TechSoup Global? What keeps the Net2 community and its leaders going? What are the Net2 staff plans and dreams? I feel like the questions we kept asking got us rather confused than focused. It doesn’t seem like we know how exactly we can merge the answers and come up with one shared strategy. Not yet at least.

One of the specifics we discussed was the partnership with corporate sponsors when it comes to providing skilled volunteers with a quality, non profit focused tasks. We also stated the question out there on whether or not these volunteers could help TechSoup in making the donation program complemented by trainings and implementation support. Another thing that emerged, was an idea of a Resource Module, that I believe comes down to providing the NetSquared community with a spectrum of options when it comes to the level of engagement. A light way would be to organize NetSquared local events, a heavyweight way would be to contribute to the creation of a platform and an active sharing of the locally developed content that would then be uploaded and distributed via the NetSquared platform.

Waiting for Action Items

Specific action items informed by the GLC meetings are coming up this Thursday. That means that the GLC members will become familiar with them before leaving San Francisco (after attending the 12NTC conference). In the meantime all of the GLC members met up today to discuss the “bread and butter” -- practical aspects of their work. We’d love to make the organizers handbook more complex and universal, we would also like to organize the group in a  way that mre sharing and cooperation would be involved. We need an action plan to do this.

This is my way of saying that -- first of all, it is very difficult to sum up a start of, what we hope to become, an ongoing, sustainable relationship. And then, second of all, it is impossible to summarize the last days efforts without having specifics that would make the entire experience something more than just a beautiful dream (or maybe a vision?). However it sounds, this time I am looking forward to waking up. But only to start the work.
