One Year Later: N2Y3 Featured Project, Freecycle, Shares Success Story

NetSquared recently followed up with the N2Y3 Featured Projects to develop these short case studies, with the goal to expand the knowledgebase of best practices for applying social media in the nonprofit context. We interviewed participants from the N2Y3 Featured Project teams to gain a better understanding of the way they used social media to increase their reach and carry out their missions. We are very happy to bring you their stories!

Today's spotlight: Freecycle!

Project Details:

  • Name of Organization: The Freecycle Network
  • URL: www.freecycle.org
  • Location: Tucson, AZ

Project description:

Mobile / Smartphone functionality for our gifting and reuse website.

Social media tool or tactic used:

Mobile phones are the tools. Freecycle didn't receive funding / win Netsquared, so they've been "pursuing this on a low flame."

How was it used?:

Freecycle isn't using the mobile phone concept as of yet. They still enable gifting via our website to their 4600 plus local groups.

Outcome:

None yet. Freecycle is still seeking a corporate partner to help them relieve this functionality for mobile phones, in addition to entering the occasional contest.

Lessons learned:

"Try, and try again. Eventually it'll work out."

For more information:

The work to create this case study series was funded by a grant from the Packard Foundation.
