The UC Berkeley Human Rights Center's Mobile Challenge highlighted projects from around the world leveraging mobile technology to aid in human rights work.   There's 50 Projects in the Gallery, and the Community Vote last week decided the Top Ten!   Finalists will be invited to present their ideas at an international conference, "The Soul of the New Machine: Human Rights, Technology, and New Media," at UC Berkeley, May 4 and 5, 2009.

About the Conference:

The international conference will provide a space for leading thinkers, civil society members, activists, programmers, and entrepreneurs to imagine, discover, share, solve, connect and act together.  The conference will focus on two areas of justice and human rights work: 1) evidence gathering and documentation and 2) advocacy and outreach.

A panel of judges, selected by the Human Rights Center, will choose three winners, to be announced at the conference. Winners will receive cash awards of $15,000 (first place), $10,000 (second place), and $5,000 (third place) to implement their ideas.
