The Human Rights Center investigates war crimes and other serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law. Our empirical studies recommend specific policy measures to hold perpetrators accountable, protect vulnerable populations, and help rebuild war-torn societies.
With projects in Burma, Congo (DRC), El Salvador, Guantanamo, Iraq, Kosovo and other locations, the HRC "seeks to bridge the worlds of academia, policy, and activism."
The HRC was established in 1994; it is part of International and Area Studies at UC Berkeley and works closely with the International Human Rights Law Clinic at Boalt Hall School of Law, the UC Berkeley UCSF Joint Medical Program, and the UC Berkeley War Crimes Studies Center.
The HRC Mobile Technology Challenge is a great way to create innovative tools for application in human rights work around the world on a platform that is making more and more connections possible: mobile phones.
The Human Rights Center's Mobile Technology Challenge is now open for submissions.
