NetSquared Singapore First Meetup
The first NetSquared Singapore Meetup was held on a Friday evening, 9th of September to be precise, at a cozy cafe in the centre of the city. The NetSquared event would resonate with you if you are interested in the intersection of technology and social good. So the first NetSquared meetup attracted about 15 people from different backgrounds but all with a common interest of using technology for social good. We had entrepreneurs, government officials, investors, corporate employees and students join the meetup. The highlight of the event was that Daniel Ben-Horin, the founder of TechSoup Global was in town and joined us for the meetup. He shared with us how NetSquared started like a wildfire proving the point that people around the world believe in the power of technology can be used to create social impact. We did some brainstorming to think about what kind of events would work best in Singapore context. It was decided that we should focus on organizing events that revolve around the use of technology in charities, social enterprise and companies CSR programmes. Also, weekend hackathons are a great way of getting technologists in one place on a weekend to build something valuable. Our next event is scheduled to be on the second week of November. The event will focus on the role of technology in NPO space in Singapore. We plan to invite speakers from various NPOs who are leaders in the use of technology in Singapore and share about the impact of technology on their work. I am very excited by the promise NetSquared Singapore holds after seeing the enthusiasm and energy of the first NetSquared Meetup. Daniel's parting words of advice were "Attract the right people to NetSquared. Focus on technology for social good that can change the world. Create an impact. Fun will follow." - Aseem K Thakur, Organizer for NetSquared Singapore Co-founder of GIVE.sg
