501c3Cast Creates a Nonprofit Audio Portrait

Last week, the 501c3Cast released what I would call an "audio portrait" of the African based nonprofit, Amazwi, on their April 23rd show. The 1 hour 13 minute program featured interviews with the organization's Founder and Director, local people singing the South African anthem (that was banned during apartheid), testimonials from three students in the organization's media training program, and interviews with three volunteer staff members about their work and what motivated them to volunteer. You can download it here.

It is a complelling show that takes the time to explore the different facets of the organization's program, and made me want to support it.

Photographs and video are powerful mediums, but so are voices. By using Skype to record phone interviews, editing them with free or affordable software like Audacity or Garagband, and hosting them on a place like Libsyn or Ourmedia, an organization can create an affordable and powerful podcast that paints an audio portrait of their organization to share with supporters, funders and the people they serve.
