Today is Blog Day, when bloggers are encouraged to find 5 new blogs outside of their culture, point of view or area of interest.
We don't post here much about how educators are using the web for their work, so here are a few education and technology themed blogs. Give 'em a little link love!
Education/Technology writes in a recent post that he is moving his staff bulletin weblog from Drupal to Wordpress, is using Zoho Creator to make web-based databases for the staff to use and using Netvibes to create student and staff resource pages.
Education & Technology thinks educators need to start integrating the interactive and web-based technology young people are already using into their lesson plans:
We need to start using the tools that the children are using at home, the iPod, blogs, wiki’s and other interactive tools. How many students do you have that have a MySpace account, or use Facebook, or have an iPod? How many have a Wii or a playstation or even an xbox? Did you know that you can use the ActivBoard as an interactive tool that the students already understand and are interested in because it lets them join in, touch and make their own choices just like that Wii, playstation or xbox.
The Digital Classroom posts about Lit2Go, a free online collection of stories and poems in MP3. You can search the database by title, author, keywords or reading level. Some of the MP3's can also be downloaded as a PDF so students can read along.
Cool Cat Teacher blog is psyched about Google Earth's Google Sky. Here are some of their ideas for how to use it in the classroom:
Use it in junior high for earth science to interactively explore the sky.
Discuss the life of a star.
Use it on your smartboard to explore, zoom in, and discuss things.
The Hubble Telescope images are available to you and your students!
Education with Technology has compiled a list of Flickr images of menus with a Creative Commons license that Spanish language teachers can use:
Students studying Spanish can come to understand the many different types of foods as well as the varieties within each type such as tacos. They can practice their ordering skills with real food and figure out their bill with real prices!
Wow! I gotta tell you, just doing a brief search on Google Blog Search for "education and technology", "Google Earth in the classroom," and "Flickr in the classroom," brought up way more resources and education themed blogs than I could have imagined!
