Anders Schneiderman from Web Services at the SEIU (Service Employees International Union) asked the question last week, "How Do You Place Your Bets in the Web 2.0 World?" on Tech Soup's Emerging Technologies Forum.
He writes:
In the last few months, SEIU has been experimenting with more Web 2.0 stuff -- tagging, Flickr, MySpace, YouTube, etc. One of the problems we've run into is that there are so many different Web 2.0 tools and communities out there that it's hard to know where it's worthwhile putting our effort given limited time. Sure, we could post our videos on YouTube, Google video, and 15 other sites, but is it really worth it? Or are we better off putting all of our video effort into, say, building a better presence just in YouTube or in YouTube plus another community?
Ditto for MySpace. Is it worth developing a very small presence on MySpace, Bebo, CyWorld, and 15 other social networking sites, order does it pay off more to really invest in 1 or 2 communities?
What do you think? You can share your experiences using the social web in your nonprofit or NGO with Anders in the Emerging Technologies Forum, or in comments here.
