David Sasaki will be a Project Champion for Yankana.org.
After working for two years as Regional Editor of Latin America for Global Voices, he is now directing their new outreach initiative which aims to encourage the use of self-publishing tools like weblogs and podcasts among underrepresented communities around the world. He is currently based in Oakland, California and enjoys reading, writing, and laughing with old and new friends as much as possible.
Here's why he volunteered to be a Project Champion:
"I've been witness to the benefits that come to individuals and groups with a strong and compelling presence on the Internet. Unfortunately, many of the most compelling voices and most important stories have yet to make their way online because of technical obstacles and the lack of support in non-English languages. I was immediately drawn to Yankana not only because it focuses on a region where I've spent a lot of time myself, but also because it understands the specific problems that lead to the exclusion of many groups from online participation."
