I was talking to someone about the growing importance of Facebook to fundraising, but was pulled up short by the following comment:
But Facebook users are all 20-somethings. Our supporters are all in their 40s and 50s. We have an older audience - they wouldn't know how to use Facebook!
Not true, according to the latest stats. Facebook isn't just grabbing the youth demographic, it's gobbling up the baby boomers as well. Find out where your donors are hanging out...

International donors, too
I think another advantage to Facebook that nonprofits overlook is its truly global reach. The saturation in some countries is astronomical. (An astounding 30% of the entire Canadian population is on Facebook!)
Just check out these numbers from 2008: http://www.insidefacebook.com/2008/07/29/tracking-facebooks-2008-interna...
For nonprofits with international appeal, Facebook could be a great way to reach beyond the U.S. donor base.
Good point - and scary statistic...
That's a great point, and one that came up in my work recently. And I'm one of the 30% of Canadians on Facebook - just too cold outside to do anything else, eh?
