NetSquared's picture

community bulderTechSoup is looking for a Community Builder. You don't really need experience on the high steel, but there are a number of other competencies that would come in extremely handy.

The Net² Community Builder will be focused on building and engaging a team of volunteers from within and outside of the Net² community and will ensure that TechSoup staff (100 of ‘em) have an opportunity to contribute to the event.

<!-- Uh... Billy... do you think we should tell the folks that "the event" = TechSoup NetSquared Conference and Gala? Or is figuring that out part of the "test"? btw, remind me to remove these comments. I always forget that part. -->

We want to engage a variety of motivated individuals to act as a Volunteer Corps -- tagging the web, organizing content on the site, writing stories, assisting organizations to set up blogs, podcasts, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Have prior experience creating an online volunteer program
  • Must be comfortable navigating the web to identify leaders and potential volunteers
  • Communicate ideas clearly and convincingly, both in writing and in person
  • Versed in 2.0 dribble and various web tools (Flickr, tagging, blogging, technorati, yoddie, etc.)
  • Will stubbornly advocate for us to distribute the Net² team's work to your volunteer corps
  • Love trouble-shooting and solving complex problems

<!-- Did you mean to leave out that bullet we talked about? "Must have 10 years prior experience herding cats" -->

It would be great if you:

  • have worked with or for nonprofits in the past
  • can point us to your blog that shows us examples of your interests and work
  • <!-- have 10 years prior experience removing HTML comments -->

Some Phase I to-do's:

  • Identify and define volunteer objectives
  • Create key tasks and milestones for program
  • Execute a strategic program that engages the skills and energy of our various supporters in the NPO community and beyond
  • Manage volunteer communities and focus teams to deliver on Net² goals
  • Work closely with core event team to build an Ambassador Corps of high-profile technologists and thinkers who are armed with materials to spread the word about Net² to their networks
  • Create and deploy digital (and other) collateral for various segments (administrators, engineers, marketers, ambassadors, etc.) of Volunteer Corps
  • Ensure volunteers and supporters have opportunity to engage event on multiple-platforms (personal blogs, flickr, meetup, etc.)

The Community Builder will be responsible for maximizing the number of people who are aware of the April 2006 Net² Event and maximizing the number of people who participate in its planning and execution. This person selected for the position will work on this project part-time, 20 hours per week, though additional work may be added as deemed necessary to the project.

<!-- What happened to the idea of giving away a FREE clock radio to the first 50 callers? -->

Send your resume -- or better yet, a brief description of why you're the right person for this -- to Billy Bicket at TechSoup (please leave that subject line in place).

c'mon, you know it'll be a cool gig!
