Global Cool, a charity that targets climate change by encouraging people to lower their carbon footprint, has a job opening!
This small, creative organization aims to tap the "trendy" sector of the UK and provide ways to make climate change cool. They are seeking a tech savvy individual with a strong knowledge of social media and the ability to enthusiastically motivate the public. The job duration is permanent, and the salary offered is £35-40k per annum. Global Cool is based in Central London and this Manager needs to be in the office about twice a week, but can be based anywhere the rest of the time.
The job description, as provided by Global Cool, reads as follows:
"Online Content and Community Manager
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Online Content and Community Manager will take Global Cool's online activity to the next level-and beyond. They will use the Global Cool's website, blog, social networks and social media to build our impact by:
-Maximizing our online reach
-Developing deeper levels of engagement and interaction with our audience online
-Developing innovative online activity that positions climate-friendly behaviors as cool and desireable
-Creating innovative ways to offer advice that makes climate-friendly behaviours easier to understand and do.
As a growing organisation, this role is ideally suited to someone with lots of fresh ideas, bags of enthusiasm and a desire to excel. There is also ample scope for this Manager to also play a key role in the development of Global Cool as an organization, and the design of our campaigning activities.
Key Activities include but are not limited to:
-Managing Global Cool's main consumer-facing site www.globalcool.org -incl. defining structure, creating/commissioning content, creating and moderating discussions, supporting campaigns, analysing traffic and usage patterns of the site, and amending the site as necessary.
-Identifying and activating ways for GlobalCool to use social networks and social media to build our audience and change behavior. Manage Global Cool's activity on social networks and social media, incl. syndicating content, building membership, fostering discussions - both to build our relationship with our audience and support the campaigns.
-Strategic design: defining objectives and strategy for online activity. Monitoring effetiveness of activities -incl. membershipi, traffic and behavior change - and amending activities as necessary. Managing budget, incl. for external agencies and writers.
-Managing communications with Global Cool's audience, eg. e-newsletters, competitions, surveys
-Identify opportunities to extend Global Cool's reach, eg. mobile phone applications, online activity and partnerships with other sites and organisations.
Required Skills and Experience
-3-5 years experience managing consumer-facing websites and online communities. Thorough understanding of how to leverage Web 2.0 tools for consumer engagement and interaction.
-Good understanding of content management systems, SEO, and HTML.
-Solid experience of managing projects, suppliers, budgets, multiple priorities. Good skills in analysing data and reporting and presenting to colleages.
-Demonstrated ability to develop strategy in consultation with others, have fresh ideas
-Passion for working in - and building - a small entrepreneurial team.
-Able to understand the mechanics of how online community programs and applications work enough to have ideas of your own.
-Enough technical knowledge to guide and manage technical contractors in designing or creating our online activities
-Experience in music or entertainment preferred."
