Ironic- that's probably the best way to describe the situation.
There's this really, really fantastic article by Andreas Kluth of The Economist (actually, it's a series of "surveys") about all aspects of the social web, such as Wikis, blogging etc etc. And I love it because it's entertaining, educational, intelligent, thought-provoking, inspiring - all the good things that journalism should be. And I can't share it with you because it's subscription only content.
Wham! A big fat door is slammed in the face of the nonprofit community that deserves to read this. That would benefit from reading it on so many levels. And guess what Mr Kluth describes in "Compose yourself" - the piece about traditional media. "Nowadays it's not content until it's linked," [Jeff Jarvis] says, and bloggers will not link to articles that require logins and subscriptions to be viewed."
Yes, dear Publishers of The Economist - that is exactly what's happening here. And while you are counting your few subscription dollars, you are missing out on a huge new audience. (And you are making me darn mad, but I guess that's secondary)
I wish we could let them know that it's time to open their eyes and see the opportunities they are missing.

Actually not true -- the stories are publicly available
Actually, what you have stated isn't true. All the stories are accessible from the web.
Start from this link, http://economist.com/surveys/displaystory.cfm?story_id=6794156, which takes you to the intro peice, and you will see links on the right side of the page to the other stories in the survey.

Thanks for sharing! I talked with Andreas last week about this and he said he pushed for making the content public bit wasn't sure how the higher-ups would be reacting. Now it is public - great news!
