Net Tuesdays or Net2 Local gatherings provide a chance to connect locally with all those interested in the intersection of social technologies and social change. There are new groups forming every week: Join in!
At OpenGreenMap.org, our newest mapmaking resource is an interactive platform and social networking website. The Open Green Map has mashed-up Flickr's API code, allowing to us to showcase images of green living sites, natural and cultural resources submitted by Mapmakers and the website's users around the world.
The Open Green Map, a NetSquared 3 Featured Project, helps people worldwide quickly share their own selection of sustainability sites, pathways and resources online. Merging local knowledge and our freshly updated iconography with Google Map technology, the resulting interactive maps will soon be viewable from our own and many other websites. Even before its Fall 2008 public launch, we invite the public to add their own comments, green ratings, images and videos and share how each site on the map has impacted their life. With this social mapping website, people of all ages and backgrounds can get involved!
Additionally, as seen at GreenMap.org, Green Map System has been using adaptable Flickr features to showcase our local-global impacts as we promote inclusive participation in sustainable community development. As a NYC-based nonprofit with an active network of locally-led projects in over 50 countries, Flickr helps us share great images of the diverse people and activities involved in Green Mapmaking most effectively and evocatively.
We have used Pictobrowser in our blog to customize our audience's view of our photo gallery so it harmonizes with our website's design.
