Theyrule.net was an early inspiration for this project, and we recently found a data format that might be useful for this project, depending on how we take it on. FOAFCorp is based on FOAF, which is a data format to describe relationships between people in RDF. There is some really good information, as well as a list of projects that are developing along these same lines on RDFWeb.org.
I think the missing link here is converting a large dataset, such as the EDGAR database, to this FOAFCorp data format. I am still not sure if the data would be static or live, which is a big issue since corporations change hands, acuire new subsidiaries and sell holdings daily.
Please get in touch via email if you are interested in helping with our mashup. I can be reached at ian (at) corpwatch.org.
Update: Bulk.resource.org has a dataset of the SEC data we would need, but I am not sure exactly what is contained in this resource.
