I just submitted my Mashup Challenge entry. It's called Honoring Historymakers & Storytellers. Please check it out and let me know if something is unclear.

It's both a search tool (for personal stories, and for organizations/campaigns that seek storytellers), as well as a way to respect our storytellers.

HOW I GOT THE IDEA (below the jump)

  1. My friend wants to interview her immigrant parents to record their experiences for the sake of history.
  2. A car ride to Lake Tahoe with friends. We traced our personal histories, linking them to textbook events such as the Chinese American "paper sons", anti-miscegenation and racial exclusion laws, the Korean War, and the colonization of the Phillipines.
  3. A friend wants to harness the power of the citizen media but it's too fragmented.
  4. School history textbooks
  5. My brother's 8th grade family tree project
  6. Public campaigns that ask for you to "tell your story"
  7. People with fascinating stories!

I explained the idea to a coworker, to get some feedback. He said he pictured a campfire, with stories/faces placed around it. I really liked that image, and I thought it would be a great way to illustrate the gatherings of voices - whether it's to share stories with each other, or to lend support for a campaign.

Good luck!

Great project, Idearist! I just gave it a star.

I work with small businesses in developing countries, and stories are very important in so many ways. I look forward to telling you more about it.

Meanwhile, I have submitted a mashup project called Biz-o-mat which you can see here. It helps small businesses in developing countries.

If you like it, please give it a star before COB today.

Thanks! See you in California in May!
