Engagement Effort Part II

Hey All,

So I received a few responsest to my post last week about how can N2 engage the community better.   Most came privately to my email address, and it is a theme in those emails that I want to use as this next engagement email.   Here is what one person wrote to me (this is only a portion of a much longer email about a variety of topics):

"Please keep this email between you and your staff rather than posting it to the blog.   In exchange, I'll make it a New Year's resolution to get more active with your blog via comments and maybe even posts...having to list where I work in my profile on N2 functions as a disincentive to post and comment freely.   I recognize that there are good reasons to include this sort of information, but ... with very little experience in social media, I am concerned that what I write could get linked back to my organization in a way that would cause trouble for me."

I heard this from several people who wrote to me - that they're concerned that something they post could negatively affect their work situation.   This is something that had not crossed my mind.   And now I'd like to ask more of you to write to me (either here or at my email jamesvito@gmail.com) to let me know - would anonymity be an incentive to increasing engagement here on N2?

It makes sense to me - this particular person I quote anonymously mentioned that they're learning about social media and don't feel oh-so-savvy yet.   They believe that making a public statement that disrobes them as not being a social media guru would hurt them at work.   And I understand that.   N2 is a community that is supposed to help you learn about social media - so, if this situation is rampant, we have a hell-uv-a rock-and-hard-place situation going on.

So, please - write to me at jamesvito@gmail.com and let me know your thoughts, or comment here on the blog.   Is this situation of anonymity a widespread dilemma?

Peace...James

hadn't thought of that one...

...but agree it could be tricky both for those who are worried about being "unmasked" and those whose employers don't want them on blogs in the first place.  Some of my issues:

-spam posts (seem to be a large number here)

-have to click link to see comment form (one glance and I don't see it, and I decide not to follow through)

-not letting me read the entire post in my feedreader (not a problem with this post, but has been in the past), then when i click through to the actual post, i still need to click yet again to see the full post.
