Net Tuesdays or Net2 Local gatherings provide a chance to connect locally with all those interested in the intersection of social technologies and social change. There are new groups forming every week: Join in!
This week my RSS reader grabbed 122 items via the NpTech Meta Feed! Here's a summary of a few highlights to read, if you don't time to read everything!
In last week's N-TEN Webinar on Tagging by Marshall Kirkpatrick shared how he created the NpTech Meta Feed. (NPTech is a tag used by people to designate a resource they find online as being of interest to the community of nonprofit technologists. If this is the first time you're hearing about it, click here for the context.)
As with any tag stream, you may come across the same article several times because more than one person felt it was worthwhile to share with colleagues. While this might be annoying, it's a measure of value.
The article tagged most frequently this past week , drumroll .... Easy Ways to Publish Your Own RSS Feeds by Brian Satterfield from TechSoup.
The NpTech tag stream is always a good source to discover new and reactivated blogs. Dorine Ruter announces the icollaborate, e-collaborate, we collaborate blog and Zen and the art of Nonprofit Technology blog has reawakened with much to say about Web2.0 and nonprofit technology. If you want to read what is on the minds of nonprofit and foundation CEOs who blog, check out Getting Attention's directory.
As always, a few new tools to check out, including Simpleseating and GroupLoop. Also, a tool directory, "The Organizer's Tool Crib," published in a report from dotorganize.net. And don't miss this report comparing Open Source CMSes: Joomla, Drupal, and Plone from the good folks at Idealware.
The NpTech Tag stream always includes useful articles from different perspectives. Confessions of a Non-Profit IT Director blog confesses that he often tags articles from business technology publications, particular those with nonprofit angles such as Paul Lamb's "Social networking for all?" Also found, the CEO's Guide to Social Networking and a guide to increasing web traffic to your blog.
Bonnie Bogle on the N-TEN Blog has a post "Connecting With MySpace and YouTube" that talks about the value of using online social networks to connect with new constituents and audiences. Holly Ross shares some demographics of streaming video viewers, and it isn't just for kids.
Speaking of YouTube, looks like there is a NpTech group set up!. And while YouTube might be unstoppable, let's not forget about other videohosting services such as blip.tv, ourmedia and the rest. (And remember, it is always a good idea to read the Terms of Use.)
If video blogging does take off in the nptech and nonprofit space, (like we're seeing here, here, and here), perhaps we'll need the Nptech Viral Video Chart
