MoveSmart.org

Justin from MoveSmart delivered a vibrant talk about how MoveSmart aims to foster vibrant and diverse neighborhoods by empowering housing seekers to move to opportunity.

MoveSmart.org aims to reduce racial, ethinic and economical residential segregation. He shared the longer term plans of MoveSmart and how it is providing a unique service to enable local participation with local partners. Plus, that people are not just searching for the already available 'general' information about an area, but information about the opportunities in a neigborhood. Justin delivered a case study of a person who could use MoveSmart to search with specific and wide ranging criteria (including health, environmental and transport for example). He demonstgrated how MoveSmart could help not only find a suitable area but also how it can connect the user to localised services and opportunities. He shared about how others (such as community based organizations, housing counselors and real estate professionals) can use this mash up application and how to get others involved in the data collation and the issues of sharing data.

My Green Map: Sharing your Sustainable Worldview

www.greenmap.org/ogm

GreenMap first grew from an idea which began in 1995. The project is now active in over 400 cities across the globe. Greenmaps have become vehicles for community participation. The mapping uses a series of icons, is easy to use and create; and by having localised mapping for communities, it delivers the following benefits - strengthens local-global sustainability networks, expands the demand for healthier, greener choices; and helps successful initiatives spread to even more communities.

OpenGreenmap.org aims to help people worldwide to share, exchange views and act on local sustainable living, nature, social and cultural resources.

The Open GreenMap is about discovering the place that you live. The project can be shared by using the website or widgets for local Green Mapmakers' websites, blogs, media and social networking profiles. Think Global, Map Local!

Knowmore.org Firefox Extension: Get Alerts of Corporate Abuses When you Visist Company/Brand/Product Websites

www.knowmore.org

KnowMore's goal for this extension for the Firefox browser is to raise consumer awareness and to transform the way that purchase power affects positive change.

They launched their extension yesterday. The extension helps to provide alerts when people visit unethical websites. The KnowMore community has profiled hundreds of coorporations and worked with a community of editors to create a data store of companies that have been rated on the following areas: Worker Rights, Human Rights, Political Influence, Environmental Concerns and Business Ethics.

When a user clicks on an unethical website, they are alerted with the data collated about the corporations and also integrates their corporate ratings into Google's seatch results. The whole project has been created by a dedicated team of volunteers and they are seeking help with funding to be able to employ a person to take this project forward.   Suggestions from the audience included on if you visited a negative website and received an alert that it could also offer better alternatives and links to other sites.
