Report from WSIS

Jody Mahoney, TechSoup's Director of International Development, is attending the World Summit on the Information Society in Tunis. She sends us this report:
Sunday: On the plane to Tunisia, and it seems that most of my companion travelers are here for the same reason, to attend the second phase of the World Summitt on Information Society hosted by the United Nations in Tunis 16-18 November. In addition to WSIS, a series of conferences, talks, presentations and meetings occurs from 14 November through 18 November in parallel to WSIS, known as ICT4all. The breadth of ICT4all, including civil society organizations, governments, the private sector, and international organizations, is enormous. A sample of the organizations speaking include Wikipedia Foundation, Creative Commons, UNESCO, Association of Progressive Communications, and a multitude of others. TechSoup is attending in two capacities--as a member of the Global Knowledge Partnership and as a WSIS-accredited civil society organization. 18,000 attendees are scheduled to be in Tunis. Monday @ Kram Exhibition Center: WSIS and ICT4all really get underway tomorrow, so I'm taking the opportunity to introduce myself to people. There are a few presentations today, one from an organization in Oakland called Third World Majority that makes use of digital storytelling, web 2.0 and media tools to encourage grassroots media development.
Thanks for sending this in, Jody. Keep 'em coming.
