Seeking Tech Recommendations

The Southern California Library is an independent, specialized library in South Los Angeles. We are embarking on a community enterprise project to strengthen the Library’s technology environment and create an interactive website that incorporates Web2.0 technologies. We are looking for possible resources and recommendations with regard to generating an e-commerce business plan and legal advice on copyright issues, as well as with identifying technology vendors/services for outsourcing discrete pieces of the project. The project is central to the Library’s vision to become a vital “third space” in Los Angeles and beyond that builds community and fosters creative, liberating interaction, exchange, and learning. All suggestions welcome!

Try Orbius

Orbius provides a social marketing and community collaboration platform for businesss, organizations and groups.

Unlike most tools that focus on peer-to-peer sharing or socialization, Orbius has a flexible  governance system to manage the different privileges of different users to post and edit content. E.g. We have a module called the Library for all users or designated editors to collaborate and develop or comment on content. It is easy to setup without need of IT skills. We have an Ask the Expert module where only your Library staff can serve as experts to patron's questions or you can choose to allow all or some patrons to help each other.

Our platform is ad-supported (or ads may be removed for an annual fee by businesses) so any patron of your Library may use it to form groups of any particular interest or your Library may start any groups of with your patrons or use it as an internal tools for your staff only.

I applaud your project objective. We're willing to invest in helping you and are interested in learning more about your needs to see if we can help further your goals.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

C.H. Low, CEO, Orbius.com
