http://www.netsquared.org/projects/vote I have read many stories on this site, I find that most of them are web related. I agree that the web plays an important part in our lives, and that is the reason that I have opted to use this tool, your website to promote awareness regarding Rehabilitation for People with Disabilities. Rehabilitation changes lives. Rehabilitation is Insurance Assuring Recovery to the extent that the person can change his/her life around and live out their lives with dignity and self-dependancy and freedom.
In India, people with disabilities are just shunned out, or locked away, or killed. The reason being, there is no awareness, there is only stigma attached. In today's technological based world, there are such wonderful innovative products and services available, that can totally change the lives of the people with disabilities, their families and friends and the society's attitudes. It takes guts and courage to promote this awareness, and my life is totally dedicated to this cause. All these tortures, rapes, abuse, poverty, illeteracy have to stop. This cycle can only stop, if we can provide proper rehabilitation in a state of the art rehabilitation centre, rehabilitate the poor without charging them any fees, and only accepting fees/charges from the wealthy, who can opt to generously donate or sponsor an individual's rehabilitation. The women, children, and girls that are disabled, believe me, are so abused that they actually welcome death.
If we cannot use technology to save and change the lives of people with disabilities, then there what will happen to our society? As John F. Kennedy said: "If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich. Do we want to become prisoners of our own wealth, living in an oasis of prosperity surrounded by deserts of misery?" Think about it.
Accessibility is another major issue. The roads in India are bad enough in the cities, you cannot imagine the states of these roads in the remote areas. That is where Technology can play a major role is changing and saving lives. We can provide an Ambulance equipped with the latest TeleMedicine equipment, since this remote technology transfers information instead of patients. How many unnecessary lives can be saved!!, specially the lives of children!! People from these villages travel to the major hospital in the city in bullock carts, which is their main transportation. We can provide them with a Handi-Bus equipped with a electrical ramp to lift the wheelchair bound onto the bus, or the disabled. We cannot do this alone. Any Corporation or person(s) can become sponsors, and we will have their Company's or the donors name on the vehicle "Donated by The Company/Person's Name" etc., good advertising, good will, good morale will be the benefits for the donors. There are many ways to help if one wants to. Please visit New Independence New Abilities for the full coverage.
Thank You for Your Support.

Re: People with disabilities
Nina,
I'm glad you made those points because it's something we in the developed world are none too aware of. We discover these things and there are many who just don't believe. Others knowing more are well aware that speaking out may threaten both them and those they are trying to help. What I offer below will be of no surprise to you:

We're advocating large scale intervention and keeping this subject alive is part of why I'm here also with a project plan.

Technology and People with Disabilities
Dear Jeff,
Thank you for your comments. It gave me great pleasure to go through your website. What wonderful work you are doing, Jeff. Keep it up. I am glad that you are among the few who recognize these problems. Technology can play a major role in the lives of these people, if we can provide them with Rehabilitation and the right products and services suitable to their unique disability.
Disability is a global problem, that very few will have the courage to actually take concrete action. My Company 'New Independence New ABilities" is a Registered Non Profit Company, and I am trying to obtain funding so that we can implement this Rehabilitation Facility in India, where it is very very much needed. As well, the mobile units equipped with Telemedicine technology will be a great asset to the remote villages in India.
Thank you Jeff, for taking time to acknowledge the seriousness of Disability. I look forward to our mutual uplifting of these individuals.
Regards,
Nina
