"A Mashup of 29+ Social Action Platforms" ready for test driving

Social Actions logo"A Mashup of 29+ Social Action Platforms" is ready for test driving. Over the weekend, we finished the initial build out of the system. NetSquared Mashup voters are welcome to test drive the system at: http://mashup.socialactions.com.

The initial version of the mashup allows users to:

  • Search across 14 social action platforms for 5 kinds of campaigns: group fundraisers, pledged actions, petitions, micro-credit loans, and affinity groups.
  • Map peer-to-peer social change campaigns using the Google Maps API.

How can we make this mashup better? Please send your feedback to peterdeitz@gmail.com or post a comment.

The short version:

"The Social Actions mashup will free peer-to-peer social change campaigns from the social action platforms on which they were created, resulting in the unrestricted flow of active campaigns from the people who created them to the people who are most likely to get involved.

"The Social Actions mashup will popularize an open-standard for indexing peer-to-peer social change campaigns using the hListing micro-format, or something similar, and will provide stunning examples of how this semantic data once aggregated can be mapped visually according location, area of interest, or active participation."

A few problems we're aware of:

  • We're still working out a system to encode location, goal, and tags for most of the feeds in the system
  • As a result, the google map is most empty for now (unless you search with no keyword in the search term box).
  • We are using MySQL's basic search function, as opposed to "full search". The results are less than perfect for now, and the little blurb below each entry doesn't highlight the section of text where the keyword appears. This will change
  • We plan to publish an RSS feed version of the search results
  • We will be adding more platforms in the coming days

Thank you for your support. If you have any questions about this mashup, please let me know.

All the best, Peter
