Social Actions Roundup #18: New Reports and Revolutions in Fundraising

Despite the holiday schedule, we witnessed an explosion of reports, articles and presentations over the last seven days on how the online philanthropic landscape is shifting. In this round up, you'll find links to material from The Hewlett Foundation, The MacAurther Foundation, The Mozilla Foundation, MSNBC, Cone Inc, Beth Kanter, Tom Watson, TechCrunch, and more.

We're suckers for anthropomorphism.

I was just revisiting some conversations I had with Robin Parker, blog master / communications specialist at the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross, while I was in Portland, Oregon. I flipped through her blog and found one of the most sticky posts I have read in a long, long while. It's an interview with Portland Rain. That's right - an interview with weather. Random [Digital] Public Acts of Gratitude

While sitting down to copious piles of stuffing yesterday, I actually did take some time and thought about the things for which I am thankful (my girlfriend’s endless patience, the music of Will Oldham, wine and family holidays). Online advertising is a form of promotion that uses the Internet and World Wide Web for the expressed purpose of delivering marketing messages to attract customers.

Social Media Trysumers

Are you a social media trysumer? A digital dilletante, you are constantly trying out all sorts of social media sites, online networks and forums.  You flit from one to the next, finally settling on a few that work for you - for now.  You are, rather literally, a social butterfly. You just might be the future of online fundraising.

Trysumer has newly entered our lexicon, describing a class of consumer who constantly seek new products and experiences.  The good news? They have a great willingness to experiment and play with new ideas and things.  The bad news? They have ridiculously short attention spans.

Even Easier to Submit Ideas for USAID Challenge

usaid development challenge project galleryThe USAID Development 2.0 Challenge has seen some great ideas submitted already.  (The deadline to submit your idea for mobile technology for good is December 5th!)  Some people experienced difficulties when submitting their projects to the Project Gallery and asked us for help making sure their projects were submitted and that others could do so as well.
