c Chaos - www.cChaos.org: where Farmers Markets meet the Vitural World

poster flierLooking for people interested in great health through access to and consumption of nutritious fresh fruits and vegetables - seeds and nuts, and lovers of farmers markets everywhere.

cChaos (Collaboratively Creating Health Accesss Opportunities & Services) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit with IRS application pending. We are targeting at-risk populations by placing farmers markets in neighborhoods of low income - high migrant - ethnically diverse populations, and networking with local social service organizations to create a healthy - information rich - consumer-safe food-shopping experience that welcomes and integrates special needs individuals and groups into our markets on all levels. We open our first market on June 5th in Oroville CA 's Southside Neighborhood. We will be the only certified farmers market in our area approved and enabled to provide food stamp EBT transactions in the area.

We are looking to create a Community Based Participatory Research infrastructure model for conducting health & quality of life research studies at and through farmers markets - both by University Students and professional researchers in collaborations with the neighborhoods we serve.

We are using open source software (currently geeklog & freeway {why is there no open source accounting programs designed for social service organizations?}) and hope to automate many of the farmers market management processes in a way that is easily copied and modified. We are looking for computer techie volunteers, donations of portable laptop & fax/scanner, wireless routers, a video projector for use at our weekly open air markets - - - and of course some brave and bold grant funding.

We are assisting in the development of a virtual farmers market in Second Life.

So far we operate with a small startup grant - but no paid labor - entirely with volunteer staff and passion- and I need a place to throw out my sleeping bag on the nights of the 27th & 28th. : )

Hope to see and talk with every one of you at the conference!
