Seattle's Net August Tuesday: Speed Geek Edition

Seattle residents typically skip work after 3 pm in August. We head for the beach, the mountains, or some place that gets hotter than 75 degrees in Summer. Since a lot of us are out of town, I thought I'd shake up August's Net Tuesday; I'm throwing out our standard format (one presentation by a non-profit, one by a technologist). I bring you one of my favorite ways to share information: the Speed Geek.

Faster than Ruby on Rails, the Speed Geek goes something like this...

Eight individuals or organizations set up a presentation they can do on a laptop or with low-tech tools (like markers and paper). In two rounds, four presentations set up at a different table as the crowd of attendees breaks up into groups of five or so. Groups rotate from table to table, with five minutes for each presentation (don't worry, there will be a break to refill your drinks).

Here's the areas we're looking for presentations on:

- Applied technology solution to a non-profit problem.
- Non-profit challenge-- Pose a challenge and seek tips, contacts, and answers from your audience/panel of experts.
- Simple solutions-- Technology that is cheap, easy, and useful for non-profits or communities.

If you're interested in presenting at the Speed Geek, please email me as soon as you have an presentation in mind. Pass on this email to friends and colleagues--- let's get a diverse group of presentations. Applications for the speed geek are due in by August 12th. Please send applications to me, Sarah Schacht, through my Ning profile (see our link on this page).

Location for next month's event is still the McLeod Residence, but it will be on Tuesday, August 14th. Doors will open at 6:30 and the speed geek will begin promptly at 7, wrapping at 8 PM.

See you there!

Sarah Schacht
Co-Host of Seattle's Net Tuesday

PS Let's get these presentations on video! Who has a video camera we can record presentations with?
