It’s time for the 10th edition of the SFTech4Good newsletter. I’m trying out a new format here, so let me know what you think of it.

---------------------------------------------------------------
1. New member welcome and thanks for coming!
---------------------------------------------------------------

First, I want to welcome all of our new members! Thanks for joining SFTech4Good. I really hope that, if you’ve not already, that you’ll make it to one of our upcoming events.

Thanks to everyone who came out to our first event of the year on February 11th: Storytelling for Social Good with Burt Herman, co-founder of Storify. Special thanks go to the SFTech4Good members that stepped up to volunteer to help the event go smoothly. You rock!

If you missed it, you can find a summary of the event on the SFTech4Good Storify page.

I also just added a ton of great pics taken by Ed Ritger from the Ben Rattray: Tech for Good Commonwealth Club event. Thanks to the folks at the Commonwealth Club for sharing them.

2.  SFTech4Good on the social web
---------------------------------------------------------------

SFTech4Good is on the social web. There is a Facebook page and a Twitter feed. If you’re on those social sites, we’d love for you to give us a like and a follow!

Also, #SFN2 is our hashtag. If you’re at an event and are sharing on social, please use it as it helps people track and be part of the online conversation. An interesting and active discussion can also pull in people from all over, so it can be a lot of fun.

It’s great that SFTech4Good is active not only in person but also on the social web. Please keep it going as it makes a difference!

3. March events: Geeks for Good Jam and SF Uncubed
---------------------------------------------------------------

March 19th - Geeks for Good Jam

Have you ever wanted to make a difference in the world and thought to yourself: "I should go volunteer"? Maybe you even tried out some opportunities but the opportunities didn’t match well with what you were good at and in the end you were not sure you really made a difference.

Join Geeks for Good for a night of lightning talks from some really great non-profits in the area and sign up for volunteer opportunities where you will truly feel you’re making a difference.

March 27th - Let's Go to San Francisco Uncubed!

We get to do it again. Like last time this event is pretty much all tech and the good is helping those SFTech4Good members who want to learn, be inspired, or find jobs they love.

Grab a beer & a job on Thursday, Mar 27th, at SF Uncubed—the city’s most exciting tech conference & recruiting event for programmers, engineers, designers, & senior business talent. Featuring talks & classes with CTOs, Founders, Heads of Product, & other influential speakers, + music, drinks, contests, a live art battle, & more. Use this code to get 50% off: SF4GOODVIP when you register.

4. DC Nonprofit Generator
---------------------------------------------------------------

On March 12th, join TechSoup, Caravan Studios, a division of TechSoup Global, and Code for America, for a Generator in DC, an ideation salon, on the day before the Nonprofit Technology Conference (NTC) in Washington, DC where we plan to:

  • Get ideas from nonprofits and issue advocates, and turn them into an actionable format so developers at Hackathons can build on them and eventually turn those ideas into apps
  • Give Developers a place to share their prototypes and apps with the subject-matter experts who can provide useful feedback from direct experiences in the sector

This event is targeted at: nonprofits and their supporters with ideas and developers who have made prototypes or apps for social benefit.

Do you know any hackers in the DC area who you think would be interested? If so, please spread the word about this event! There are still spots on the waitlist for the Nonprofit/Advocate/Volunteer/Community category.
