Suggested: Another Net2: Content and Tools for the Developing World

I just posted a suggestion at Next Action, involving:

Create a Net2 sub-community focused on Content and Tools for the Developing World. The post is at suggested Next Action

  • Continue this Net2 process, replicating the format of this Net2 meeting, with its excellent range of online community-creating tools.
  • Narrow the focus to: developing countries
  • Deepen the focus to include community radio, book search, etc
  • Hold a meeting similar in structure to this first Net2 meeting.
  • Hold

Two forces impacting the Business Model Revolution

I just submitted this as a question to Dan'l Lewin at the Business Model Revolution session. Included here so others can comment as well.

From my perspective at the CyberInstitute (online information for small businesses in developing countries), there are two major forces impacting the business model revolution.

--ONE-- ICTs, including mobile phones, and now all of Web 2.0, are leading to the empowerment of billions of people. These individuals, who are gaining equality with every click, are now customers that matter to big companies. In the flattening world, listening to the customer is more important than ever, because they are feeling empowered and want to be heard.

Information Barter, and disruption

I just submitted this as a question to Howard Rheingold for the session on disruption.

Listed here for anyone to comment on Information Barter.

  • Given that empowerment of disempowered people is a positive disruptive force;
  • Given that everyone knows something (for example, the local rural bus timetable);
  • Given that it is empowering to share what you know, to have others value your knowledge;
  • Given that people value things more if the things (including information) are not provided free;

Then what about information barter? - the process where information is traded for other information.

The CyberInstitute is adding to the “cornucopia of the commons” with online information for small businesses in developing countries, and investigating the use of information barter.
