Non-Profits - How to ‘Use’ your Community

Yesterday, we gave a talk at the NetSquared Mashup Challenge Conference, highlighting how non-profits could use online tools to create and engage their community. We outlined how to create the community, and how to get that community to 'work' for the organization's cause.

Part of talk highlighted how non-profits should share their data whenever possible. Everything from using services like slideshare.net and docstoc.com, to posting stats and knowledge on their blog. Of course we drink our own medicine, so here is a copy of our slides:

The GreenerOne Project - our working widget

So we've created a widget for the GreenerOne site that will allow a member to display how many people they've helped make a green decision while shopping for a product.

We mashuped a few technologies to make this happen. The widget is a dynamic image (PNG) generated from a image library to display how many people you've assisted with your reviews.

Facebook developer needed for GreenerOne Widget

greenerone

We're developing a widget for GreenerOne that will allow members to display how many people they've helped to make a 'green' decision during their purchase.

We need the help of a facebook developer.

We're building out the backend to intergrate with GreenerOne product reviews and need somebody who can help us intergrate the widget on facebook. The widget is pretty straight basic, it's just a dynamic PNG generated when somebody loads a page and has info about the GreenerOne's reviews.

Introductions

Just wanted to introduce myself to the netsquared community - I'm the co-founder of the free forum hosting service, lefora.com. Before this I was part of meetro - the location-aware friend finder. Prior to meetro I was at IBM, where I was helping to shape social software within the enterprise.

I'm originally from nyc, been out here for almost 3 years now, absolutely loving everything the bay area has to offer, from technology and open competition, to remote get-aways just a ferry ride away.

How I'm helping...
