People the world over are grappling with how best to harness technology to advance their causes. Learning how to do this best (or even better) is something well suited to doing locally.

This in a nutshell is what NetSquared groups are all about. A global movement for social change with people connecting locally.

You'll see many familiar topics being talked about by people through NetSquared groups around the world. In November alone topics being addressed include:

  • Taking Events to the Next Level with Tech
  • Lightening Your Load with Online Tools
  • Digital Storytelling
  • Fundraising + Technology
  • Metrics that matter.

These topics are being addressed in places as diverse as: Manchester, UK; San Francisco; Singapore; Denver, CO; Toronto, Canada; and Guayaquil, Ecuador.

The growing NetSquared movement can be found in this part of the world too! There are active NetSquared groups in AdelaideMelbourne and Wellington, and formative groups in Auckland and Sydney

The common thread between all groups is people meeting in person to share ideas, learn together and be part of something bigger.

The official NetSquared vision "is to to make it easy, meaningful, and fun for people and organizations to get the information, visibility and support they need to maximize technology for social good."

As one of four recently appointed regional NetSquared ambassadors, I'm available to support new and existing groups in Aotearoa and Australia. I've taken on the role alongside ambassadors in Guatemala, Cameroons and England. It's part of a 10 month trial to grow the NetSquared network.

Getting a group up and going is entirely reliant on the energy of each co-organiser. There's no pay, but you do get to support others, learn heaps and meet some inspiring people.

Interested?

Don't forget you can access some friendly support. I'll be trying to connect local organisers as much as much as I can. Mostly this will be via the web, but we're already talking of a gathering of NetSquared organisers at the time of the 2014 Connecting Up conference.

If you'd like to explore how NetSquared could strengthen the work of organisations involved in social change in your area, please get in touch.
