Which Net2Local Groups are Most Keen?

TechSoup Global recently surveyed the members of our North American NetSquared community on meetup.com. In the past we have closely examined the experiences of our volunteer organizers but this is the first time we have asked the members who attend our events to tell us what they think of Net2Local and what topics they are interested in.

We will be sharing the results of the survey in two posts:

  1. Which Net2Local groups are most engaged? (this post!)
  2. Survey summary and analysis

There are lots of ways we can measure the engagement of each group’s members, but one of the easiest ways is to simply ask which groups had the highest response rate to the survey?

As of January 1, 2014 we have received 411 responses to the survey. Organized by response rate the top ten groups are as follows:

Group# of responses# of meetup members% response
NetSquared Nevada2450.0%
NetSquared Twin Cities6223826.1%
NetSquared Peterborough53016.7%
NetSquared New Haven2115014.0%
Net2 Victoria2216613.3%
NetSquared Honolulu5677.5%
NetSquared Burlington223027.3%
NetSquared Eastside Los Angeles61125.4%
NetSquared Austin1195.3%
Seattle Tech4Good143334.2%

However, some cities received a very small number of responses because the group itself is very small or new and therefore the margin of error is sky high. If we instead sort the list by number of responses the top ten groups are now as follow:

Group# of responses# of meetup members% response
NetSquared Twin Cities6223826.1%
Toronto Net Tuesday4213903.0%
NetSquared New Orleans (Net2NO)4011093.6%
Net2van3118891.6%
San Francisco NetSquared / San Francisco Tech4Good2824041.2%
Net2 Victoria2216613.3%
NetSquared Burlington223027.3%
NetSquared New Haven2115014.0%
Seattle Tech4Good143334.2%
NetSquared Houston125542.2%

There are three clear winners emerging now:

RankCollector# of responses# of meetup members% response
1NetSquared Twin Cities (Minneapolis / St. Paul)6223826.1%
2NetSquared New Haven2115014.0%
3Net2 Victoria2216613.3%

The hardy prairie folk of Minneapolis-St. Paul blow the competition out of the water. Boom! Congratulations to the group’s organizers Cary Walski and Bruce Johansen for creating a deeply engaged community of nonprofit techies.

Honorable mention goes to NetSquared Victoria which is less than a year old. The high response rate is a testament to the community organizing skills of Dan Pollock.

P.S. NetSquared New Haven is currently looking for new leadership. With such an engaged membership restarting the group should be a snap!
