Network for Good | Scott Case, Board Chairman

What's *really* new on the Web, as opposed to buzzwords and soundbites?:

Almost nothing is new. It's the cultural shift that is breathing new life into old ideas. We are experiencing our first generation of adult web users that have "grown up" with the technology. I expect the "new" stuff to come soon.

Which tools best embody the new opportunities from your point of view and why?:

Who's doing the best work with the new tools (technically or in terms of social benefit or both)?:

What's the bad news? What are the greatest barriers preventing web-based technology from producing social change?:

The social communications networks are extrodinarily powerful mechanisms for producing social change. The ability has always been in the network (IRC, message boards, chat rooms, etc.) but the wide adoption among certain (and growing) user groups will drive its use toward social change. The biggest barrier will be translating communication into specific action. We can all agree that people should not go hungry in America but what exactly are we going to do about it?
