4 questions. 4 pithy answers.

What's *really* new on the Web, as opposed to buzzwords and soundbites?:

"We" are.

We've progressed from users to visitors to readers and we are slowly emerging as ... people!

Which tools best embody the new opportunities from your point of view and why?:

Open API's.

From the way the NCMEC is using Flickr to the opportunities hidden in Vast, we're making sense of the tools in front of us in ways that product managers never could.

Who's doing the best work with the new tools (technically or in terms of social benefit or both)?:

I really think Net2 will be the best tool we've seen in social networks.

What's the bad news? What are the greatest barriers preventing web-based technology from producing social change?:

Government regulation and intellectual property rights are the only things that have me concerned.

Short of that I am uncharacteristically (ask anyone who knows me) optimistic about the power of Web-based technology.  As long as there are smart programmers out there who want to make something that will be used and put to good use, we'll over come all of the barriers in time.  But government regulation or greed could dampen enthusiasm before the wildfire starts.
