The GROW Parenting Podcast is dedicated to family counseling, and early childhood education, advocacy and therapy. Topics include autism, IEP negotiation, child advocacy, parenting, and raising a child with special needs. Keeping with its mission to provide access to family support and counseling services, GROW is one of the very first nonprofit organizations nationwide to utilize podcasting to offer these services.
Through the podcast, Giving Real Opportunities to Women (GROW) has been able to tap into a far greater community beyond its initial supporters and clients. Visitors to the GROW website have grown from 150 total visitors in 2003 to over 800 visitors per month in early 2006, and growing. The podcast is a free service offering parenting and early childhood education advice, allowing GROW to communicate with a larger audience at minimal cost. Since starting the show, GROW has been able to open up new ways of online community outreach (including an e-newsletter), and online fundraising.
Podcasts are hosted by Erika Huber, Founder and Executive Director of Giving Real Opportunities to Women (GROW). In her professional career, Erika has treated children and young adults with developmental disabilities and counseled families of children with developmental disabilities for ten years. She is a Developmental Therapist working in the State of Illinois, and has assisted numerous families in the negotiation and mediation of Individual Education Programs (IEPs) for their children within their local school districts. Erika Huber earned her BA in Psychology from Barat College (IL) and her M.Ed. in Early Childhood, Family Crisis Counseling and Licensure in Community Counseling from DePaul University (IL).
