This resembles your Net2/TechSoup conference. I'm working on a college, but to create a sense of community online, I've been dreaming of avatars. Games have them, and I recently started experimenting with Second Life. Your conference gave me the idea to simply do it in Second Life - build virtual classrooms and auditoriums, etc. How this would work with tuition, salaries, and college credit will have to be worked out.
It may be my machine, but the videos of your conference show me that Second Life is still jerky and not intuitive to operate.
I had been thinking of how to transport avatars into my website; the other way around might work better (and cheaper).

Empowerment idea for youth in KENYA
Hi everyone,i have an idea for empowering youth in my country, and later in all of Africa.
Communication, is expensive in a country/continent where the majority life on les than a dolloar a day,
my idea is to get sponsors for what am calling Youth Business Centers or Y.B.Cs
these would be forty foot containers, that after renovation would have, ten computers, a solar panle on the roof for power, wireless telephone for low cot usage by the commuinty.
These containers would cost around 10,000$ each fully equiped and ready for use, they would serve the dual role of,providing (low cost)communications to citizens, employment and income to the area youth, and a communications network across AFRICA
Acccesble by all. making a true GLOBAL village
Any one interested in putting this together ??
My email is njenga_mp@myway.com
lets get talking people and make this world a better place if we can.
