Who: 3rdwhale.com is a mobile solutions compay seeking to "mobilize the green revolution". We build mobile applications to allow people to live healther, greener lives and to be part of the green movement. Besides our location based service we have also built mobile apps for Greenpeace.
What: Our first mobile application is a location based service for the iPhone, mobile web and soon for Google Android which connects green consumers and green businesses across North America. We have more than 20,000 green business listings across 6 categories including: Healing and Wellness, Food, Eco-travel, Retail, Transportation and Services.
When: Our iPhone and WAP versions are live now and our Android version will be live very soon. If we are selected for this Microsoft comptetition, we woudl get to work immediately on the Windows Mobile version too.
Where: 3rdWhale is based in Vancouer, BC but we also have an office in Silicon Valley (Sunnyvale). Our app is live in 30 cities across North America.
Why: People want to live healthier greener lives and increasingly concerned about climate change and environmental issues. But people are busy and have little time to do Google searches in front of their computer everytime they want to go eat, buy a gift for their mom, or rent a bike. Most people make buying decisions when they are out and about. The app is great for people while on the go in their own city or traveling to other cities. Also, with this bad economy, green businesses trying to do the right thing need all the help they can get.
3rdWhale has been profiled on Treehugger, Huffington Post, Sustainable Industries Journal and numerous blog sites including Sierra Club for our leading green mobile applications.
