In 2005 I (Jason Liszkiewicz) wrote a proposal (http://tinyurl.com/2xadkl) foreseeing the emergence of mobile devices combined with information distribution to influence societies' form and function.
It was immediately accepted to be made into a live presentation for the annual "Information Operations and Open Source Intelligence" Conference in 2006 held in the Washington D.C. area. In attendance were professionals from Singapore, Canada, England, Croatia, Southern Command (SOCOM) in Florida, and many others.
 NYC is a hotbed for interesting mobile device usage. I have a published chapter giving many examples based out of NYC in the book "Collective Intelligence: Creating a Prosperous World at Peace" (http://smart-city.re-configure.org).
