The Giveback team believes that everyone, everywhere feels the urge to lend a hand and make a difference now and again. People are motivated by a variety of causes and are willing to take action in many different ways. Each small act of goodness, when combined with many other small acts of goodness, can add up to real positive change. The web has become a place full of inspiration in the form of blogs, news, videos, etc., which has great capacity to motivate people to act. Unfortunately, there is often a lag between people feeling that urge to help and actually finding out what they can do. This requires research for which many people don't have time and so the opportunity is frequently lost.

Giveback's mission is to close this gap between inspiration and action. We feel that the secret to achieving this is to deliver relevant action opportunities at the very moment at which people feel inspired to help. This widget does just that. It automatically pulls actions from the Social Actions database which match the host site's content either by scanning the page for keywords or by using specific tags that the content host has requested. The widget then records and displays the number of actions that people take through it, thus showing, in real time, how effective that site has been at motivating people to make a difference.

What's more, the widget is designed to gather data and then incorporate that feedback into the logic of the application, so that over time and with increased usage the app delivers increasingly relevant actions based on its context.
