The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is in the midst of an urgent and acute humanitarian crisis. As a result of the country’s ongoing conflict, the people have suffered, and continue to suffer, from displacement, murder, rape and other violence. Malnutrition and disease are widespread and much of the population lacks food, shelter and basic health care.    It is estimated that 5.2 million people have died since civil war broke out in the DRC in 1998. The majority of deaths have been due to largely preventable disease (such as malaria, measles, malnutrition) rather than violence. The Web and mobile technology, including everything from inventive applications for social network to educate people through videos and information to simple text messaging, is increasingly ubiquitous in the developing world and holds great potential for impact in areas such as health.

Mydoctor project is a health social network and mobile phone application design to connect healthcare workers and patients, to support health treatment recommendations, to promote family planning and health wealth of population, spread real-time alerts and collection of medical patient data for assisting in areas such as maternal mortality, cancer or AIDS in conflict affected area in democratic republic of Congo. 

 Mydoctor project will bring greatest value-added-service in health services in the democratic republic of Congo. 

Imagine using Mydoctor, WHO can make a Poliomyelitis vaccine campaign around the country by sending videos, sms or audios to Mydoctor users. Research centers can send surveys automatically to patients using Mydoctor project. Health based NGOs, health national agencies can use Mydoctor project both the social network and mobile application to campaign against Hiv/aids, Ebola and other diseases for instance or alerts population during the epidemic outbreak. Doctors can send to patient’s treatment recommendations which will be registered directly to patient’s personal profile in mydoctor mobile application or to social network account. 

 What are the components and how do they work together? Mydoctor project is a health social network and mobile application.

1. Mydoctor Social Network is a web health based Social network which will connect healthcare workers and patients. The social network will include videos, audio for health issues, scientific information, documentaries, interviews, games, health alerts, hospital and emergency contact, diseases, treatments recommendations, chat, discussions and mailing, etc. The idea behind Mydoctor Social Network is to connect health workers and patients in real-time and to provide patients a platform to get access to confortable source of health information and a real time assistance in their health problems.

2. Mydoctor Mobile Application  is a high quality user-friendly secure mobile phone  application for health issues that can be run in a wide range of java-enable phones.  It will combine a high resolution video, enable to send and receive X-ray image, Sms reminders, patients personal profile,  real-time alerts, Securized Log On and password, Update diseases/Medicines information option.

Implementation

Mydoctor application is a secure mobile application that connects health worker/research centres  and patients and offering a great collaboration, communication between them.

X-ray Image will enable health workers to send and patient to receive x-ray image will be benefit for patients that often can travelled more than 20 km to contact a doctor to get information about x-ray results.

SMS reminder, with SMS reminder health worker can make  treatment recommendation to patient. National and International NGOs can make campaign against diseases and others epidemics, vaccination campaign, campaign against HIV/AIDS, sexual health information dissemination campaign, etc

Personal patient profile with pertinent medical information can serve as medical file, in east of the Democratic republic of Congo, people don't have medical file, using personal patient profile of mydoctor application can be an alternative to medical file. 

real-time alerts will enable patients to send emergency information to health worker when they need help or health worker can alerted patients on emergency case.

Update diseases/Medicines information option will enable patient to get automatic update about diseases in their region, information on specific  symptoms, sign, transmission, prevention or preventive therapy, etc
